The summit is easily accessible with a cable car starting at Brülisau, south of Appenzell. A revolving restaurant, offering panoramic views, has been built on the top. Ascents to Hoher Kasten and the neighouring summit Kamor were already described in the early 19th century.

On top of the panoramic Hoher Kasten mountain near Appenzell you can enjoy a fantastic 360° outlook even while sitting in the revolving restaurant. The newly opened Europa-Rundweg circular trail goes right around the Panoramic Restaurant, which itself only opened a few years ago, and offers view over six countries. Viewing terraces, benches, an impressive rock path and telescopes encourage you to rest a while and enjoy the scenery.
