The Urmiberg is an offshoot of the Rigi in the east and is located in the Swiss canton of Schwyz in the Schwyz Alps.
From the Halten zone (436 m above sea level) on the western edge of Brunnen leads the cable car Brunnen-Urmiberg up to Timpel (1128 m above sea level), the center of the Urmiberg. Right next to the mountain station is the restaurant Timpelweid.
The name Urmiberg is indicative of the southeast slope in the municipality of Ingenbohl, more precisely in the village of Brunnen.
The Urmiberg is bounded west of the Rigi Hochflue and Zingelstock; its highest elevation Gottertli is resting place and vantage point at 1395 m above sea level. The foothills begins at the Hochflue (also Hoflue), a mountain peak at 1698 m above sea level.
Along the ridge leads the municipal boundary between Ingenbohl and Lauerz. On the north side resp. in Lauerz is the northwest slope called Büelerberg. The Fallenbach flows from the south side into Lake Lucerne.
Characteristic of the Urmiberg are the Lower and the Upper Brunniberg – the latter called Duume (thumb) in the vernacular – two boulders which protrude from the mountain.
Last but not least, the Urmiberg in 2017 became famous through the book “Summit Meeting. Reunion On The Urmiberg” written by author Blanca Imboden from Schwyz, Switzerland.
