Holzflue, CH

This hike passes through the Tectonic Arena Sardona world heritage site and offers pristine natural scenery and views into the Linth valley. Parts of this trail are bordered by a grotesque looking pine forest which was destroyed by bark beetles. The loop trail is marked with Wanderweg Schweiz signs and green stickers labeled Holzflue-Rundweg.

Impressions

At the mountain station of the Aeugstenbahn at the Bärenboden, the circular hike begins with a far-sighted panoramic view over the southern Glarnerland. A short steep ascent leads to the mountain guesthouse Aeugstenhütte.

From here, you continue up to the cone and the gamekeeper’s hut where the Glarner gamekeeper stays overnight if he does not want or is not able to descend into the valley after his inspection runs in the wild-catch area Schilt.

To the South lies Glarus and Glarus-South and to the North rises the gray rock face of the Schilt. At the bottom there are chamois and ibex in the mornings and evenings attracting numerous hikers due to their confidingness. Even so, hikers are recommended to bring the binoculars to marvel even more at the variety of wildlife up there.

The hike then continues through the partly deforested Äugstenwald over the Holzflue to the Alp Beglingen and Schwiböden back to Bärenboden with the mountain station. Walk on or take the cable car back down to Ennenda.
